Here is a summary of what we have been learning about in class. We learned about different types of Technical Elements (Camera, Sound, Mis-en-Scene, Editing) in Media, and creating storyboards.

Camera:

A camera captures emotion, perspective and size, using different shots, angles and images.

Camera angles:

Effects:

Long Shot: Shows the full subject and setting.

Extreme Long Shot: Shows the subject from afar.

Medium Shot: Balances subject and setting, often used for conversations.

Cowboy Shot: Focuses on action, often used in Westerns.

Close up: Focuses on the face or details, shows emotion or importance.

Extreme Close up: Highlights tiny details and intensity.

POV: Shows a characters perspective, creates immersion.

Over the shoulders: Shows one character from another's viewpoint, creates connection or tension.

High Angle: Makes the subject appear weak or vulnerable.

Low Angle: Makes the subject appear powerful or dominant.

Dutch Angle: Creates unease or tension.

Establishing Shot: Provides location and context, often helps sets a scene.

Storyboards are a series of drawings that visualizes how a story or scene will look before it's filmed.

Reflection:

I had lots of help from Kristine doing this classwork, this is my first year in media so it was a bit difficult and time consuming for me to do, but I didn't mind it. 

Screen test

 Here is a video of our screen test. We need actors for our film, so we decided to run auditions as a class to see who is confident in front of the camera. Mr. Nick helped us make this compilation video.

Reflection:

I enjoyed doing the screen test with my class because it was nice seeing everyone try their best. Some students were very confident in front of the camera but I think my team may still need to look elsewhere for actors.

INT. CARRIE’S HOUSE, NIGHT

DREW, LYLA, and CARRIE in a dark, scary attic. CARRIE is checking if the camera is on so they can start filming.

BLACK SCREEN

DREW (PRELAB)

You recordin??

CARRIE (PRELAB)

(puzzled)

I think so, Hello? Is this thing on? 

DREW (PRELAB)

Check the red light stupid.

CAMERA TURNS ON, blurry vision, starts to focus slowly

CARRIE

Okay yeah it's on. okay so..(interrupted) guys we found something in our attic– [showing Drew holding the book with the camera]

DREW finds a mysterious book

DREW

Yooo what is this [laughing][tinkering around with the book]

CARRIE

(disgusted)

What kind of book is that? It looks disgusting. 

LYLA

(looking around suspiciously)

Why’d you guys move here, this house gives me the creeps 

CARRIE

I don’t know, mom picked the first house she could buy, she wanted to move as far away as possible from dad.

DREW and CARRIE look through the book, flipping over pages, and start insulting it. LYLA is disturbed by their insults and is concerned

DREW

Dad’s a dork - YOO guys check it out!

CARRIE

What’s up [showing interest at the book]

DREW goes to explore “something else”

LYLA and CARRIE hears a strange sound, they are now horrified with worry

DREW jumpscares them, jokingly attacking the camera

Camera glitches, the recording stops

Cut to:

Both LYLA and CARRIE, now furious, turn to DREW, scolding him angrily for scaring them.

LYLA

(surprised)

OH GOD!

CARRIE

(angry)

What the hell Drew! You almost gave me a Goddamn heart attack.

A mysterious furniture falls and they are all startled

Out of nowhere, the light turns off, nothing can be seen, Drew makes a weird sound.

Lights turns back on, DREW is now on the ground as he struggles in pain

The lights turn off again, nothing can be seen, DREW is now making weird sounds.

Light turns back on to see DREW standing in the middle of the room frozen like a statue.

OUT OF NOWHERE, Drew attacks CARRIE, the camera starts glitching

LYLA

(petrified)

DREW WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?! STOP!

Cut to:

DREW’s camera lights up, showing the full atmosphere. LYLA is screaming for help as she sees CARRIE’S dreadful body 

LYLA (CONT’D) 

(tears on her eyes, as if she is food for predator)

HELP!! PLEASE SOMEBODY!

LYLA spots a red light from DREW’s camera, thinking its her camera, she crawls towards it

In pain, she gets pulled behind by an anonymous figure, she screams in horror

DREW’s camera glitches and the scene ends with a title card

Reflection:

The script and screenplay took a long time to do, my team didn't enjoy it very much and it was the last task we got done. I think my group was just unmotivated to do it and we didn't really enjoy it.

Reflections: 

Kristine and Masie did a really good job at drawing storyboards for our team. I'm really bad at drawing and I wouldn't have enjoyed the pressure of making these for us, so I'm glad they took on the job.

Reflection:

Lamiya was absent on the day we made our statement of intent, but we were still able to do it. It wasn't a very hard task so I didn't mind doing it with my team. It wasn't very time consuming so we finished it quite quickly.
