Weekly progress + Plan
Week 1: This week I did
preliminary and industry research, as well as looking through and choosing a
genre for our short film.
Week 2: Today I did research into my genre so I know what goes into making horror films and what is needed for my group to make our own. I listed things that are typically used and can be seen in other horror films.
Week 3: research was done this week so we could watch and learn about other movies and how they created them. We discovered the mise-en-scene features in it.
Week 4: we made a statement of intent, which included us splitting roles on what we have to do during this process, and what people were assigned to what tasks.
Week 5: this week we started on our storyboards, our script, screenplay, and we had a unit assessment on media consolidation. The assessment was originally supposed to be completed online, but a student was found on chatgpt so we had to finish it on paper. Along with that, our notes were taken from us as a consequence.
Week 6: this week we worked on our blogs and completed our screen tests. Our whole class had different lines from different genres to choose from, and we had to try our best in our auditions. Most students were very uncomfortable and shy in front of the camera, but some went all our and delivered the lines very well. It was a fun group task for all of us to participate in.
Week 7: This week we continued to work on our blog posts. We completed more research and added in more information where it was needed.
Reflection
Filling in our weekly progress was a bit of an annoying task to complete, but it was helpful to remind us of what we did overall.
Week 1: This week we practiced filming and editing, we recreated a scene from a found footage horror film and tried to make it as identical as possible. We went around the school to film, then edited it together on CapCut.
Week 2: This week we practiced our editing skills and learnt about why editing is important and what effects it can create. We also learnt about four new theories; cultivation theory, desensitization theory, social learning theory and reception theory. We also learnt about being dominant, oppositional and negotiable about media that we see.
Week 3: This week we learnt about the representation theory and how the audience receives the media. There is a dominant reading, an operational reading and a negotiable reading. Stuart Hall made the theory where we don't have a fixed meaning until the media represents us and gives us one. We also learnt about three different women that created theories about gender, Judith Butler, Laura Mulvey and Leisbet Van Zoonen. They all have a similar belief, which is the media has a part in shaping your identity. Lastly, we worked on our big filming project. Over the weekend, we finished filming our footage and this week during class, we began editing it. We made a dominant reading table and compared it to our statement of intent, to see what has stayed the same and what we changed in our plans. We also started our blog posts about behind the scenes, post production editing and organizing our footage.
Week 4: This week we continued editing our film opening on CapCut and got feedback for it. We researched for names, so we can give our movie a title and all collectively found one we liked. We also completed a few more blog posts.
Week 5: This week we had a national holiday, so we had a break from school. I continued to work on our project as much as I could at home, as well as collecting audience feedback for next weeks work.
Week 6: This week we started our CCR 1 and 2, but all work was done online because school closed down due to extreme weather conditions. My group and I also added our audience feedback into our blogposts and analyzed it.
Week 7: This week we had mock exams so it was hard to find time to keep working on our projects, but we did start our CCR 3 and 4. It was confusing at first because I didn't know what the CCR's were meant to look like, but my group helped me to understand how I was supposed to complete the task.
Week 8: This week we had a debrief of our first mock exam and feedback on how to improve for our second one. We completed our second mock exam, then continued to work on our blog posts.
Week 9: This week we worked on completing our blog posts and finishing our CCR's. All of our lessons were project lessons so we could really focus on getting them done before the deadline next week.
Week 10: This week was our final week to complete all of our blog posts. Our deadline was on Wednesday! My group and I worked hard and stayed up late to finish all of our work. It was very tiring but the feeling of getting everything done was very rewarding. We finalized previous work, added in reflections where he hadn't yet and did all four of our CCR's.
Reflection
The weekly progress was easy to complete, it wasn't time consuming at all, thought sometimes it was a bit of an annoying task to do. I don't like doing my weekly progress but it is helpful for me to be able to see what exactly I did each week.
